Economic Growth

For a long time China was politically and economically sealed off from the outside world. Only after the year 1978 the possibility for reform and economic development was given again. The economic development proceeded on an exceedingly unparalleled level after the end of the planned economy and China turned into the fastest-growing nation of the last quarter of the century. Currently China posses the largest foreign currency reserves worldwide and is the second largest economy after the USA. 2007 was the fifth year in succession in which the GDP has grown a minimum of 10%. In 2008, 2009 und 2010 a GDP growth of 9.1%, 9.2% and 10,3% was reached.

China’s per-capita income rose at an average annual rate of more than 8% in the past three decades. The GDP per-capita in relation to the purchasing power parity is at 7,400 USD. In a worldwide comparison this corresponds to 127th place among 229 countries (2010). Based on its development, China consequently has enabled a respectable income for its population within two decades.

In 2010 tax revenues amounted to 7,739 bn RMB (1,141bn USD); this is an increase of 22,64% in comparison to the prior year.

Through a multi-billion Euro economic stimulus package (approx. 460 bn EUR), which was approved by the government at the end of 2008, the infrastructure as well as the domestic market shall particularly be improved in the coming years.

China finds itself in a powerful upward situation. A consistent growth policy has created momentum which will in view of China‘s size and competitive gaps continue for a long time.
